The Most Realistic Electric Fireplace Inserts

Looking for a safer alternative to wood or gas fireplaces for your rental properties or home? Here are some of the most realistic options we’ve found:

1) DIMPLEX DLGM29 Opti-Myst Open Hearth Fireplace Insert with Faux Logs Bed, Alabaster

This fireplace insert has a flame effect with realistic “smoke.” It’s generated by a water misting system that creates a captivating three dimensional flame.

Pros:

It’s incredibly realistic looking!

Safer – no toxic emissions and is cool to the touch.

Comes with a remote control.

Cons:

Not as easy to see in the daytime.

Requires refilling the water compartment which is also a little bit tricky to initially install.

Does not generate heat.

2) Dimplex Revillusion® 20″ Plug-In Log Set (Model: RLG20), 5118 BTU, 120 Volt, 1500 Watt, Black

This fireplace insert projects a flame effect using a “Mirage Flame panel” which is a partially frosted acrylic panel that sticks up from the logs.

Pros:

Realistic flame effect especially in a darker room with a smaller fireplace.

Has a heat setting.

No toxic emissions.

Comes with a remote control.

Low price.

Cons:

The plastic panel can be very reflective and noticeable in daylight and in rooms with lamps close to the fireplace.

Does not generate a lot of heat.

3) LegendFlame 23″ W Free Standing Electric Fireplace Log Set (EF290), Fireplace Insert, Heater 750W/1500W, Crackling Sound, Remote Control

This insert uses the same panel effect as the model above, but also comes with a crackling sound effect to make the experience more realistic.

Pros:

Realistic flame effect especially in a darker room with a smaller fireplace.

Has a heat setting.

No toxic emissions.

Comes with a remote control.

Low price.

Crackles!

Cons:

The plastic panel can be very reflective and noticeable in daylight and in rooms with lamps close to the fireplace.

Does not generate a lot of heat.
